OMI Corporation (OMM)

1/30/02

Overview

Omi Corporation is in the business of shipping crude oil and petroleum products for international markets. OMM owns its fleet of 32 vessels and has orders for eight additional vessels. The Omi fleet transports for independent and state owned oil companies as well as other entities.

Omi reported net income of .11 per share for the 3rd quarter and $1.13 for the nine months ending 9/30/01. Here's where OMM stands out; OMM has an approximate P/E of 2 versus an industry average of 11. Return on Equity of 33% versus an industry average of 14%. Price to Book of .66 versus an industry average of 1.33. To be sure, OMM is in a cyclical industry and revenue has dropped along with the stock price. We feel this drop is temporary and OMM's stock price and revenue will rebound as the industry firms up and OMM's fleet grows. OMM looks to be an attractive investment for the patient investor.
